Today our research group attended a simply living conference in the agricultural administrative building on campus. Their purpose is to “educate themselves and others to live responsibly and sustainably in joyful relationship with the earth and one another.”
They are continuously holding educational seminars and hosting influencial guest speakers from the city and state. Their website provides links to 210 community organizations/businesses that support sustainable living and a calender of events. Simply Living is represented in the other paper, the alive, the free press and they distribute a bimonthly news letter to their members.
Students and community members are welcome to all of these events.

I was a speaker at the Simply Living conference this weekend and met some great folks – including the ones who pointed me to this site. I’ve only been a member of Simply Living for a few years now but I’ve been increasingly drawn to the concept that we need societal not just technological changes to achieve a sustainable world. For example “walkable communities” not only help the environment they improve our quality of life. I love the name “seeinggreen” – how we see our world is our most powerful environmental tool.
Comment by Lisa Staggenborg October 16, 2006 @ 1:34 pmI graduated from OSU with degrees in forestry and urban planning. I really appreciate present day students that are focusing on sustainable living. I recently visited Holland, Denmark and Sweden. In 17 days I saw only 2 SUVs, but tens of thousands of bikes and people walking. I’ve hiked the entire Appalachian Trail and belong the AT Long Distance Hiking Association. I believe in walking.
Comment by Tom Logsdon October 16, 2006 @ 3:35 pmI would like to invite anyone from Seeing Green to write a newsletter article for “Simply News” based on your experience at our conference. The deadline is Nov. 15 and you can send it to Marilyn Welker at mwelker@ctcn.net. We’d appreciate a student’s perspective, esp. based on your work following the eco-scene over the past months, and some photos! Let’s talk – 447-0296, Sarah
